SMEs can participate in the EU cybersecurity program with a subsidy budget of up to 20,000 euros per SME.
Key players in EU-programme
The European Cybersecurity Competence Centre of the EU has selected Lupasafe, INAA partner, to help SMEs improve their cyber security. As part of the ECCC Cybersecurity for SMEs (CYSSME) programme, Lupasafe is part of a team of experts from across the EU chosen to assess and improve cybersecurity for more than 300 SMEs in the EU and involving 100,000 companies.
Expertise in action
Lupasafe’s role in the project is to provide all SMEs in the EU with insight into cyber risks, to support their IT audit and compliance. Lupasafe has experience with large-scale projects through the Cybermonitor, the collaboration with BOV Veenendaal in which Lupasafe makes basic cybersecurity available to more than 850 companies. In addition, Lupasafe has already supported two other major EU projects: securing supply chain infrastructure at the major shipping port of Galati – in an exercise that introduced vulnerabilities into the system, Lupasafe correctly identified all of these and took action. The second project consisted of providing cyber support to Italian manufacturing supply chains for their NIS2 compliance.
Fast self-reliance and NIS2 Compliance
In the CYSSME project, SMEs can benefit from an initial financing program of €4.5 million to evaluate their cybersecurity improvements. CYSSME is developing an approach to develop and scale cybersecurity for the benefit of the EU’s 23.4 million small and medium-sized enterprises. The initial focus is on securing businesses in technology, industrial, e-commerce and small and medium retail businesses. SMBs can become self-sufficient in cybersecurity in two to six months, quickly learn to identify and manage risks and develop a secure process approach across their business. They can also get support for NIS2 compliance rules that will apply from September 2024.
How can I participate?
European SMEs that want to actively work on their cyber security can have CYSSME’s services partly subsidized. A subsidy budget of approximately 20,000 euros is available per company or organization. Any SME that completes the first phase of a cybersecurity project with CYSSME within six months of start-up can benefit from pre-study, technology, installation and integration, coaching, training and project documentation services.
Any SME within the EU can submit an application, which will be assessed by CYSSME. The final selection is based on the needs, the sector and the effort the applicant wants to demonstrate. CYSSME requires an enterprise to set aside enough time to fully optimize their cybersecurity in a short period of time. CYSSME also expects every company to actively contribute to raising cybersecurity awareness. Agreements about this are made in advance.
